Our Mission

The CITL furthers the mission of Sofia University by helping faculty, staff, students, and alumni become engaged leaders and learners while nurturing a community of practice in transpersonal studies.

Under the Directorship of John Elfers, PhD, and in conjunction with the Dissertation Office, the CITL hopes to accomplish its mission by sponsoring workshops, in-service trainings in transformative education, providing direct support for innovative theoretical and applied research, and maintaining a repository of media and resources. It is our hope that the CITL will become the central hub for innovation in teaching and learning at Sofia. Interested in learning more about the CITL? Meet the Individual Behind the CITL & Pathways to Heart Podcast

John Elfers, Ph.D., the Director of the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning and Dissertation Office at Sofia University, has been working on launching a podcast that would help inspire transpersonal voices in our community and beyond.

Dr. Elfers is an alumnus of Sofia University (formerly known as the Institute for Transpersonal Psychology) and has been actively involved in the university since graduating with his Doctorate in Transpersonal Psychology in 2009.
