The University and Program
Sofia University began, in 1975, as the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, a small, private, non-profit institution located in Palo Alto, California, dedicated to graduate education. The Institute achieved initial regional accreditation through WASC in 1997 and became Sofia University in 2012.
The University now comprises four “Schools of Learning”: The School for Transformative Learning, the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, the School of Technology and Engineering, and the School of Business and Social Entrepreneurship.
Housed in the School of Technology and Engineering, the Master of Science in Computer Science program at Sofia University provides students, onsite and online, with a broad background in software development and other core disciplines of computer science. The Program Chair of the MSCS program serves as the academic leader of the program, managing process related to instruction (class scheduling, faculty mentoring, etc.), internships, enrollment, curriculum development, and student learning assessment. The Chair is responsible for fostering faculty and student success that is focused on learning, inside and outside the classroom.
Successful candidates for the position should:
- Possess a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization;
- Demonstrate successful experience as a teacher/facilitator in online and onsite classroom environments;
- Demonstrate expertise in academic administrative and leadership skills and be committed to teaching, research, and service;
- Be active in professional engineering organizations;
- Demonstrate ability to successfully work with a culturally diverse population.
