Disabilities Support Services (DSS)

The university is committed to working with enrolled students who have disabilities as defined under section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and the ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA) of 2008 and March 2011. The Dean of Student Services will work with individuals on a case-by-case basis to create a plan of reasonable accommodation for any student who has a permanent disability or through recent assessment and diagnosis – can document a disability. The Writing and Research Center (WRC)

The Writing & Research Center at Sofia University is here to help students interested in improving their critical thinking, scholarly writing, and communication skills. The center provides free one-on-one tutoring, writing workshops, ongoing writing support groups, style guide resources, and much more to help you improve your skills. Tutors assist students with everything from organization and flow of your content to compliance with APA/Sofia-style guidelines. While we primarily focus on scholarly writing, assistance is also available for other types of class assignments, such as reflection and reaction papers. For information about the WRC, contact us at

Community Center for Health & Wellness (CCHW)

Sofia University’s Community Center for Health & Wellness serves our community with professional counseling and spiritual guidance. CCHW selects, trains and supervises compassionate practitioners who honor the spiritual and religious beliefs of our diverse community, and empowers our clients to grow and expand their inherent health and wholeness. Career Resource Center (CRC)

The mission of the Career Resource Center is to promote the success and prosperity of our students and alumni by facilitating your personal and professional growth and development, and by assisting you in bringing your own special gifts to the world with purpose, confidence and joy. On average, individuals in the USA will experience between three to seven major career transitions during the course of their work-life. While we cannot promise to “place” our alumni in jobs, our services and expertise can make the transitions easier. Clinical and Praxis Services

Community on Diversity and Equity (CODE)

The Committee on Diversity and Equity (CODE) is a cross-constituency diversity-focused advisory and support committee consisting of students, staff, and faculty. CODE is dedicated to mobilizing Sofia’s community (staff, faculty, students, and board of trustees) to create a culture that supports all the diversities within Sofia and works to ensure equity within each of the sub-communities as well as in the whole community – especially as related to those diversities. The team does this through acting as sponsors for events, dialoging with the administration about diversity matters, and working on strategic projects. Other Activities

Diwalli Harvest Potluck and Talent Show

Each November, Sofia University has its annual Harvest Potluck & Talent Show. Alumni, students, faculty, staff, and their families are invited to join the fun. Harvest is a time of honoring the growth of the past year and redirecting attention towards our inner lives. At this time we come together to celebrate the bounty of the season and our Sofia community.  We also couple this event with the Diwalli festival of physical and spiritual light celebration.  For Diwalli we dedicate a day of drawing and creative expression with Diwali Rangoli Art material.

Constitution Day

September 17th is Constitution Day.  Sofia University celebrates the week leading to the 17thand the day of.  Students, Staff, and Faculty gather for Constitution Day celebration which includes food, decors, and display/pass out fun and fascinating facts about the U.S. constitution.

Chinese New Year

Each Chinese New Year, Sofia University celebrates with Chinese food, decors, raffle activity, and red envelopes.  We come together to celebrate this tradition with our Chinese students, staff, and faculty.

 Black History Month

Each February for one week, Sofia celebrates Black History Month by displaying information and presentation of the exceptional accomplishments and contributions made by African Americans.  At the end of the month we gather together for fun fact activity and food.
