The ITP Foundation is pleased to offer scholarships to support entering and continuing students who can demonstrate financial need, will contribute meaningfully to the diversity of the transpersonal community, and possess high potential to thrive within the Sofia community. In addition, the ITP Foundation provides funding for research projects. As different from a pure natural science or psychological research approach, the Sofia University research projects has a strong grounding in human sciences, where state-of-the-art research designs are utilized to achieve greater understanding of exceptional, transcendent, and transformative human experiences.

Bob founded the University to provide a transformative education to the whole person—body, mind, and spirit. He wanted Sofia’s graduates to embody the transpersonal in their professional work and in their personal lives as well.Sofia’s approach to education reflects Bob’s own varied experience. Bob has taught psychology and religious studies at Harvard, the University of California Berkeley and the University of California Santa Cruz. Bob is a sheikh, or spiritual guide, in the Sufi mystical tradition.  He is also an Aikido teacher, was a personal student of the founder of Aikido, and holds a 7th degree black belt.

Gretchen B. Kimball Director of Orchestral Studies and Associate Professor of Music in Performance at Stanford University

Professor Jindong Cai is the Gretchen B. Kimball Director of Orchestral Studies and Associate Professor of Music in Performance at Stanford University.  He is Music Director and Conductor of the Stanford Symphony and the Stanford Philharmonia Orchestras. He is also the Artistic Director of the Stanford Pan-Asian Music Festival, which he founded in 2005.  Maestro Cai serves as the Principal Guest Conductor of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra in China, and of the Mongolia State Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet in Ulan Batar.

Grace Hu is currently a Principle Engineer in HP Inc. and focuses primarily on information technology infrastructure and enterprise security platforms. Her areas of interest also include education, psychology and spirituality. She is an investor in other educational companies. Prior to HP, Grace worked for several hi-tech companies including eBay and Google. She holds an MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering.

International Finance & Marketing Executive and Entrepreneur

Dr. Prone is an experienced International Finance & Marketing Executive and Entrepreneur specializing in business development and consulting. He was responsible for establishing and building IBM’s Credit Corporation businesses in Australia, South East Asia, and South America. He was Managing Director of Optimum Performance Consulting Ltd. offering consulting services in Ireland. He was also co-director of Silva Method Ireland, a company providing stress management and personal development programs.

He is a transpersonal psychologist and researcher in the field of Exceptional Human Experience. During his time at ITP he was Research Assistant at California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute for Complementary and Integrative Medicine, working on two National Institute of Health funded studies on the efficacy of distant healing.

He blends his executive level corporate experience with his specialized knowledge in psychology to provide consulting services and scientifically based programs to organizations and individuals, helping them to reach their optimum performance. He is currently the co-owner of Senior Helping Seniors, a company which  provides a full range of in-home, non-medical support services to seniors in the East Bay area.

Dr. Guim was chair of the Business Administration department for 14 years at the National Hispanic University.  He also re-designed and directed the Translation and Interpretation Certificate program for five years.  He has worked for private industry and government agencies including ATARI, Southern Pacific Communications, GTE Sprint, Bank of America, the Office of Economic Planning, Policy and Research (State of California), and the Division of Ratepayer Advocates of the California Public Utilities Commission. He teaches business administration, general education, education, and translation and interpretation courses at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels in local universities.

Dr. Guim is a board member of Lana Kingdom, a non-profit organization focused on doing international development work with small communities in S.E. Asia.  He has travelled with Lana Kingdom teams to implement development projects in Burma, Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand.  Dr. Guim also does educational and organizational consulting locally and internationally (including Peru, Chile, and Taiwan).

One of Dr. Guim’s academic interests is in critical hermeneutics and its application in business administration.  He is also involved in the performing arts, with a specific focus on the study of leading-following in the Argentine tango and applying it for the development of leading-following training in organizations by linking leading-following to the theory of action, linguistics, biomechanics, and management theory.
