Steps

  1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Our school code is G22676.
  2. Fill out the Sofia University Financial Aid Institutional Form.
  3. The financial aid application will be processed within six to eight weeks after receipt of the form.
  4. Complete the Entrance Interview and Master Promissory Note (MPN) at www.studentloans.gov.

For students who wish to apply for a Federal Graduate PLUS loan, go to www.studentloans.gov to apply and to complete an MPN.

Apply for a PIN online

You can apply for a PIN online at www.pin.ed.gov. A PIN is (almost always) a four-digit number that is used in combination with your social security number, name, and date of birth to identify you as someone who has the right to access your own personal information on Federal Student Aid websites such as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) site. If you are a parent of a dependent student, you will need your own PIN if you want to sign your child’s FAFSA electronically. If you have more than one child attending college, you can use the same PIN to sign all of their applications.

*Your PIN is used to sign legally binding documents electronically. It has the same legal status as a written signature. Don’t give your PIN to anyone—not even to someone helping you fill out the FAFSA. Sharing your PIN could put you at risk of identity theft!

You’ll get a password

When you fill out your FAFSA, you’ll create a password. The password is not the same as your PIN; you’ll use the password only if you start your FAFSA, save it without finishing it, log out, and then want to log back in again later to finish it.

What’s next?

When the processed FAFSA is received, you will be required to complete the Financial Aid Institutional Form. When the form is received, your file will be reviewed. You must complete an Entrance Interview and Master Promissory Note at www.studentloans.gov.

You will receive your financial aid award letter via mail. After you have completed the initial part of the financial aid application process, your funds will be scheduled to come to school. Your loan funds will be applied towards your tuition and fee.

*If you have any excess funds, a refund check will be created and sent to you. If you have any questions regarding your refund amount, contact the accounting office at sofia_accounting@sofia.edu or by phone at (650) 493-4430, ext. 270.

Contact the financial aid office if you have questions at (650) 493-4430, ext. 712 or by email at financial_aid@sofia.edu.
