Some credit may be granted for graduate study completed prior to admission to a Sofia University graduate program. Transfer units must have been completed through an accredited institution.

Limits on transfer units into each program are listed below.

  • Up to 9 units may be awarded as “credit for prior learning” with the approval of the Program Chair and Dean. Credit is awarded only for documented and assessed college-level learning that ties the student’s prior experience(s) to the content of the relevant academic field or discipline at the appropriate level of learning. Credit is awarded only in areas which fall within the regular curricular offerings of Sofia University.
  • The academic subjects considered for transfer must be clearly relevant to the student’s program, and students must submit a syllabus of the course so that the content can be evaluated.
  • Only official transcripts will be accepted to validate credit. All transfer units must have been completed with a minimum passing grade of “B” or its equivalent and taken within the last ten years.
  • Transfer units do not lead to a reduction in tuition, but may allow students to take additional elective courses or complete their studies earlier.

Psy.D. of Clinical Psychology

Students who have completed relevant graduate level course work at another school, within the past 10 years, may apply for Graduate Transfer Credit by completing a “Transfer Credit Form” available from the Admissions Office and submitting the form with syllabi of the courses for which they wish to receive credit. The Psy.D. Program Chair will review student petitions to determine transfer credit and course waivers. Students may receive up to 21.0 units of transfer credit. Comparable coursework beyond the 21 units can be waived. While neither transfer credit nor class waivers will affect tuition, students have the option of taking additional elective classes or carrying a lighter workload.
